Achilles Tsaltas
Achilles Tsaltas oversees the worldwide circulation/distribution strategy, P&L operation and team for the Paris-based International Herald Tribune, a New York Times newspaper with a 235,000 print circulation and 9 million digital web users. In his role, he explores, negotiates, implements and oversees publishing and printing partnerships around the world, mainly in emerging markets.
With a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Sydney and a Master of Sociology degree from the University of NSW, Achilles Tsaltas joined News Corporation in Sydney in October 1989 in the advertising department of the Australian newspaper. He was selected in 1993 to launch a new business magazine entitled Business Asia and then in 1996 to re-launch the newspaper’s weekend magazine, The Australian Magazine, managing the advertising and commercial side of the operation.
In 1999 Achilles moved to Hong Kong to become Executive Director for Business Development Asia/Pacific for the International Herald Tribune. A year later he was promoted to Deputy Managing Director and successfully launched four publishing partnerships in Korea, Japan, India, and Thailand. In early 2003 he was assigned to the IHT Paris headquarters to work on the Times-IHT integration plan and on worldwide business development projects, including the website. He moved to Paris full time in 2004 to serve as Worldwide Circulation Director, which is part of the IHT’s Senior Management Team. Two years later he was promoted to the position of Vice President, Circulation & Development becoming a member of the company’s Executive Committee.
