Baadur Koplatadze

The Caucasus School of Journalism and Media Management (CSJMM)

Baadur Koplatadze has served as Dean of Caucasus School of Journalism and Media Management (CSJMM) at the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA) since April 2011. Before that he was an adjunct faculty and fulltime faculty member at the school for six years. Under Koplatadze’s leadership, the school is working to implement several strategic projects to improve its operations and support CSMM’s new revenue generating business model to build up school’s greater sustainability.

Before joining academia, Koplatadze worked for 14 years at a number of leading Georgian media outlets, mostly as a managing and political editor.  He started as a reporter in yearly 90s when free media in Georgia started to emerge. His last job in the industry was first deputy director of Georgian Public Broadcasting.

Koplatadze is experienced in non-media business, including running his own market research company and developing a chain of consumer electronics stores that today is a prominent player in the Georgian retail and wholesale market.

Koplatadze earned a Master’s in Mass Communication from the Manship School of Mass Communications at Louisiana State University and a Master’s in Journalism from Georgian Institute of Public Affairs. He also holds a diploma with honors from the Department of Applied Mathematics at Tbilisi State University,

The Caucasus School of Journalism and Media Management (CSJMM) is part of Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA). Along with CSJMM, the Institute houses the School of Public Administration and the School of Politics and Law. Deans have overall responsibility for the schools operations and are responsible for strategic development, managing the school’s staff and faculty, and overseeing all projects that the school implements. The school offers two Master's degree programs in Journalism and Public Relations.
