David Keith Dahl

Since 2003, David Keith Dahl has been on the staff of The Boston Globe, currently serving as regional editor. In that role, he oversees three twice-a-week print regional sections focused on communities around Boston and a network of hyper-local websites called Your Town. In this position, Dahl directly or indirectly manages approximately 20 reporters and editors, plus 30 or more freelancers.

From 2003 to 2007, Dahl served as The Globe’s political editor, directing state and local coverage. This involved supervising a three-person State House bureau and two Boston-based political writers. He oversaw the coverage of the state’s legalization of gay marriage; preparation for the 2004 Democratic National Convention, the 2006 gubernatorial race and early steps in Governor Mitt Romney’s run for president. He also launched the paper’s state political blog.

Prior to The Globe, Dahl worked at the St. Petersburg Times from 1983 to 2003 in a variety of capacities, including deputy metro editor, state editor, Washington bureau chief and reporter, Tallahassee bureau reporter and St. Petersburg police reporter. He started his professional career at the Tampa Times in 1981.

A 1981 graduate of the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communication at Gainesville, Dahl was 2002-03 a Nieman Fellow at Harvard. He has earned a number of journalism awards, including the 1998 Society of Professional Journalists first place co-winner in the category of newspaper/wire services Washington correspondence, for “The Representative, the Millionaire and the Car,” a series of stories about U.S. Representative Corrine Brown.
