Diego Zorrilla
Although I do not hold a degree, I have almost complete undergraduate studies in Communication. My journalistic experience has been mostly in the fields of reporting and editing. I started working in 1990 for a local newspaper as a sports reporter, focusing mainly on rugby, the sport I played. I later on became the editor of the rugby section in that newspaper and, at the same time, became a free-lance reporter for different written media in Argentina. In 1992 I left to join the Buenos Aires Herald, the leading English-language newspaper in Argentina and winner of the Moors-Cabot prize in 1978. There I was a General Sports editor until 1999, when I became Deputy Editor of the Sports section. In 2000, I joined ESPN as part of the group that started ESPNdeportes.com. I was hired as an Associate Sports Editor, and later on became Buenos Aires Bureau Chief, Managing Editor and Chief Editor, the position I currently hold. While I still do some work reporting and editing (this year, for example, I covered the Soccer World Cup in South Africa), most of my work in the past few years has had more to do with managing. I run an editorial operation of 60+ full-time employees and 50+ contributors, while at the same time I work closely together with other areas such as Sales, Design and Production and Marketing. As a side note, I also have almost 20 years of experience in teaching. I was assistant coach in several high school teams in sports such as rugby, athletics and cricket, prepared students for University of Cambridge international examinations and taught several courses in New Media and Information Technologies for secondary school teachers.
