Gene Haddock, Jr.
Gene Haddock is Vice President of Circulation and Circulation Marketing at the Houston Chronicle. He also serves on the Newspaper Association of America Circulation Federation Board of Directors, and is Chair of the NAA Single Copy Committee.
Gene came to the Houston Chronicle in October 2000 after spending over 8 years with The New York Times. He came to the Houston Chronicle as New Business Development Manager charged with creating new circulation growth programs. Management for the Single Copy Sales and Operations Department was added to his responsibilities in 2001, and he was promoted to Director over this area. In October of 2004, he was promoted to Vice President of Circulation and took over all aspects of the Circulation Division, including Circulation Marketing, Sales and Retention, Operations and Distribution, and the Newspapers in Education Department.
Gene began his newspaper career working part-time during college at the Austin American-Statesman in Austin, Texas. After graduating with a marketing degree, he accepted a circulation sales position with The New York Times handling circulation and marketing for the Southwest Region of the U.S. Over his 8 years with The Times, he handled various regions including the Southeast, and Florida & the Caribbean.
Gene is married, and has two children – Mackenzie 11 and Mitchell 8. Gene’s hobbies include all sports – especially golf, fishing and hunting, and home renovation.
