Rita Hibbard
As executive director and editor of InvestigateWest, I am creating a new model for investigative work and new pathways for information distribution for a news industry in transition. My team creates stories that are produced across platforms, for distribution to online, print and broadcast media. I co-founded InvestigateWest in 2009, building a network of business partners and forging collaborative relationships among media partners. My team maintains an active Web site, as well as being engaged in producing long-term investigative work that is focused on the Pacific Northwest and West. My organization is a founding member of the Investigative News Network, a group of large and small investigative newsrooms working toward collaboration and sustainability. As assistant managing editor for news at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, I took a newsroom from print to digital. As direct editor of the investigative team, my reporters covered issues from corrupt cops to clear-cutting Boy Scouts to government officials whose cronyism cost military families housing and taxpayers millions of dollars, winning national recognition in the process. My newsroom leadership assignments included leading change initiatives and related training programs. Past newsroom positions ranged from social issues and health reporter to government and business editor.
